APA's Publication handbook (2010) indicates that, within the body of the paper, you need to use italics the titles of:
- periodicals (journals, publications, magazines)
- TV shows
- Microfilm publications
Beyond APA's particular examples, know that certain kinds of titles are almost always written in italics.
Utilize italics in a word-processed document for the forms of titles you had underline if you were composing by hand. An over-all principle usually in the text of a paper, italicize the name of complete works but place quotation marks around games of components within a total work.
The dining table below isn't comprehensive, but it is an excellent kick off pointTitles inItalics Titles Placed in «Quotation Marks» Title of a periodical (magazine, journal, magazine) Name of article in a periodical Title of a book Title of a chapter in a guide Title of a movie or play Name of a work or scene in a movie or a play Title of a television or radio show Title of an episode within a tv or radio show Title of a musical album or CD Title of a song Title of a long poem Title of a quick poem Names of operas or long musical composition Names of paintings and sculptures
Title of a brief story
On an APA-style guide page, the principles for titles are just a little various. In a nutshell, a title you would italicize in the torso of a paper may also be italicized on a reference page. But a title you'd invest quote markings in the torso regarding the paper (for instance the title of an article within a journal) would be written in normal lettering and will not be in quote markings.
Below are a few examples:
Smith (2001) scientific studies are completely described in Journal of advanced schooling.
Smith's (2001) article «College Admissions See Increase» was published in Journal of Higher Education after their pivotal research regarding the admissions procedure.
