What Would Happen If Soda Was Banned? Essay

“Banning soda is outrageous when there are plenty of other products in the market that could replace the same supplement.” Do you ever wonder what would happen if soda was banned? What about all the other products that could do the same amount of damage? It wouldn’t change a thing if only soda was banned, because human beings have a natural instinct to find a beverage that provides them with sugar and caffeine. Some people won’t have anywhere to turn, so they might just start being an addict to energy drinks (which is worse than a can of soda) and other sugary drinks. Instead of banning soda, ban things that are way worse than soda because people will find ways to become obese even after soda is banned. Notwithstanding soda, there are many other products/foods that should be banned such as fast food, chips, sweets and etc. People may disagree and say that when people are in a rush or are on long car rides they stop buy gas stations and fast food places to grab a bite on junk food. It will also stop people from buying products from certain companies and they will go bankrupt.

As a result of fast food being one of the leading causes of obesity, Fast foods not only make you obese, but it can also make you vulnerable to diseases, chips are high in fat, and sweets can get you a step closer to get diabetes and raising your blood sugar. According to The New York City Obesity Task Force Planto Prevent and Control Obesity and The amend food establishment, Type II Diabetes can result in blindness, hypertension and amputations. In NYC (2007) two thousand-six hundred people were hospitalized for amputations related to diabetes.

Banning soda will just have people going to the next big thing that makes them obese. Banning soda will not solve anything because people will find ways to become obese even after soda is banned. Some will disagree and say banning large size sodas will help people from becoming obese and there will be a decrease in obesity if it becomes banned. As a result, banning large sodas at restaurants, movie theaters and stores will stop people from drinking large cups of soda, but If large cups of sodas were to be banned, people will then buy two or more drinks to equal one while large sized soda and they will go to other junk food and drinks that are unhealthy for them. Consequently, a twenty ounce sugary drink contains at least twenty packets of sugar.

According to The New York City Obesity Task Force Planto Prevent and Control Obesity and The amend food establishment, if obesity rates continue to grow this generation of children may live shorter lives than their parents. Obesity increases cancer, heart disease , arthritis, depression, asthma and many other problems. According to the amend food establishment, fifty-eight percent of adults are overweight and obese and twenty percent public school children are too.

In conclusion, banning soda would be pointless because we all have an urge to drink something that contains sugar. Humans in general will find another source to obtain the same effect from other beverage. People could either become addicted to things which are worse than soda or try beginning a healthy lifestyle. The chances of someone starting a healthy lifestyle are rare. Every human drinks, soda, it is their getaway drink which gives them energy and sugar in their body. The body has a necessity for sugar, so why not receive that source from a can of soda. Obviously soda is not something you should drink daily, but it has its benefits when someone has low blood sugar. Personally, I would never recommend drinking Soda due to all the effects it can have on a human body.
