Why is it that we as society can come together and ban one object to keep our children safe, but wont ban or control other unreasonable. The ad makes it seem as if we care more about a book in a children’s library that they can have access to than them having access to assault weapons. Kinder eggs were banned due to the choking hazard of children, but not assault weapons? Does it take another Sandy Hook to get the America’s attention. The organization also uses pathos in their advertisements. Children are seen as innocence and purity, which is disrupted by adding a gun to the picture , which represents violence and chaos. The viewers are also drawn to the darkened image of the two children , and how they look sad.
Why are they sad? In all of their advertisements the child of another race (black, asian, hispanic) are holding the harmless object, however the Caucasian child is always being seen holding the assault weapon. What point are they trying to get across? Is it the fact that most school shootings are done by caucasian adolescents? Who ultimately get away with it each time by pleading mental illness issues.
