Study Essay

There’s an inaccurate belief of smokers in the UK which claims that vaping is as destructive as smoking or don't have the idea about the fact that vaping is less dangerous, suggests an investigation. In order to banish this fallacy and push people to switch to vaping rather than consuming deleterious cigarettes, an informative movie has been produced by Public Health England (PHE), which explains the impact of monthly consumption of smoking cigarettes against the consumption of vaping or no smoking at all. Let’s take a quick look of what the film actually depicted.

The film consisted a spoof experiment which showed the effects of consuming a tobacco cigarettes compared to e-cigarettes and no smoking (normal air) and impressions on the lungs were portrayed by cotton balls crammed into containers . Each container is connected to a diaphragm pump giving a nonstop draw of air through each container- one set up to "smoke" tobacco cigarettes, another to "vape" e-cigarettes and the third utilized as the control with just air drawn through it.

As the experiment reaches its end, the cotton ball in ‘Tobacco Container’ turns brown along with the inside of the container. Also, the tube heading the pump becomes thicker and soaked with tar. The e-cigarette Container on the other remained almost unaltered. Although, a little water vapor was noticed along with a negligible change in the color. The control container remained completely unaffected from the process. Prof. John Newton (Director of the study) claimed that the experiment almost explains the visual disparities between ‘Tobacco Container’ and ‘E-cigarette container’.

Research suggests that, while not completely risk free, vaping is at any rate 95% safer than smoking. Prof Newton later quoted: "It would be tragic if thousands of smokers who could quit with the help of an e-cigarette are being put off due to false fears about safety. He further added, "We need to reassure smokers that switching to an e-cigarette would be much less harmful than smoking." In conclusion he said, “This demonstration highlights the devastating harms caused by every cigarette and helps people see that vaping is likely to pose only a fraction of the risk."

Prof. Newton’s statements were further supported by Mr. Steve Brine, the Public Health Minister who also said "Tough Government action has driven down smoking rates to a record low, but it remains our biggest preventable killer. "The evidence is clear that e-cigarettes are far less harmful than smoking and they are the most popular quitting method in England. When paired with local stop-smoking services, they have some of the highest success rates." Public Health England stated that anybody who wishes to quit tobacco cigarettes should take their time and search "smoke free" on the web if they’re looking for possible alternatives to quit smoking.
