"Romeo and Juliet (1968)" Movie Review Essay & Film Analysis

Many love stories we see every time on the screen. Many love stories we read in the books. Oh so many stories we tell ... But probably will not find such a person, who does not know the most famous and most beautiful love story, written by the great playwright William Shakespeare. Which after nearly four centuries of Franco Zeffirelli filmed. This is the story of Romeo and Juliet. Once upon a time in high school, we watched it, but only fragments, and reviewing it now - I did not notice the time ...
Middle Ages. In the Italian city of Verona are the two most powerful families Montagues and Capulets are already several generations of internecine fighting. After the latest clashes between the servants of both houses, which grew into a massive battle, Verona column threatened death to anyone again in Verona shed blood ... On the same day in the house of Capulet arranged a masked ball, where the head of household is hoping to marry off the noble Count Paris with his young daughter Juliet. The ball surreptitiously penetrate the cheerful company, consisting of defiance with his friends Mercutio and Benvolio and Montagues son - Romeo. And no one knew that at this ball the young Romeo and Juliet fall in love with each other, which could mean a blessing and a curse ...
There are so many different performances and interpretations of the plays of William Shakespeare, and yet I am more inclined to classic, which are made in accordance with the age. In modern - everything depends on the setting and how well can transfer the action to the modern world. Classic also may not always like it, in some productions focuses on one, forgetting about other more important ... And what is remarkable, this film adaptation of Franco Zeffirelli that it completely moves the action to the summer medieval Italy. Even sitting in a cold apartment, I felt the heat of the streets, it's dry summer. Heroes dressed in costumes that belong to that era, fighting with swords ... All elements of Shakespeare and space saved, and they are so real that now I will represent them precisely when I re-read again the tragedy: the bazaar, where the confrontation began, and luxurious hall in Capulet's house. and the famous balcony, where there was a revelation, and deserted streets, where there was a fatal duel ... It was filmed and shown with accurate precision.
perfectly still that actors starred, as close in age to the present age their literary heroes. And I was fascinated by their game - so young and so talented ... I'll tell you about the best and most memorable. Leonard Whiting - in the first stage struck me with my own eyes: I really like the blue-eyed man, but I have never seen such a bright blue ... He is the most perfect, the most beautiful and most romantic hero I ever seen on screen. So Romeo and should be, a sad dreamer who is looking for love. Leonard played great in every scene and every second he's not just playing the role of Romeo, he really was. Olivia Hussey - the most beautiful Juliet, which I saw on the screen. She is so, what should be: still quite a girl, wide-eyed, which also did not mean to think about marriage. Who fell in love with Romeo, and will love him always, always ... And how they played together - willing to bet that every viewer will believe in the sincerity of their feelings, and the fact that Leonard and Olivia met some time, seems not at all surprising. After all, anyone who reads Shakespeare, certainly seems strange that in his plays, the actors do not have specific instructions on how they should play the scene. And in this film young actors played enthusiastically, fully showing us what real love is and what it means to love every part of your heart. See it and feel it, when you look at the scene at the ball, where Romeo and Juliet for the first time they see each other, then at the scene on the balcony, where they reveal their feelings ... And we are extremely sorry that such a beautiful story should be the tragic end ...
Still want to say a few words about the other actors: John McEnery, who played Merkutstsio - indeed, the guy who likes to have fun, though from time to time - we can see in his eyes and hear the sadness in his speeches a certain detachment ... Natasha Parry - Lady Capulet, are quite complex th character, and how to represent it depends on the director's vision. Here it is - incredibly proud, quite arrogant and unfeeling, even when not on the side of his daughter and, though not particularly talking with her husband, completely agree with his opinion. Quite a lot of fun to film delivers Nurse Juliet ( Pat Heywood ) - she laughs (in other words do not pick up) that high-ranking officials feel uncomfortable. On it immediately shows how she loves her ward, and she wants her to be happy. Milo O'Shea - the wise monk Lorenzo, who wants to avoid further bloodshed and blesses the marriage of Romeo and Juliet, and later offers a risky plan to save their feelings ...
How to film classics - depends on the director's vision . And yet classic - will always be popular, and the film adaptation of the classic character of the classic works are the best, because - if the transfer action in the modern world, success can be different. A classic will always be, as they say in the trend . And the classic film adaptation of Romeo and Juliet will always be considered as a reference and the best.
