Racial DiscriminationWhen we consider real faculties like pores and skin from social definition perspective, there is absolutely no clear meaning, however these characteristics do have what is called social meaning. Pierre van den Berghe defined a racial group as a «human team that defines itself and/or is defined by other teams as not the same as other groups by virtue of innate and immutable physical characteristics» (8). If this were real for many races, then the reason somebody who is one-eighth white is not considered white by society? Most likely because culture considers African People in the us as the minority, so this became a cultural universal on how best to judge if someone should be considered black colored or white. Ethnicity comes from the Greek word «Ethnos», meaning «nation.» Its earliest English use described countries or countries that have beenn't Jewish or Christian. There are two various definitions of ethnicity, one broad and another narrow. The broad meaning describes an ethnic team to be a social team distinguished by battle, faith, or nationwide origin. If we look closer, we will see that these faculties are both physical and cultural, that's why this will be referred to as the broad definition. The narrow meaning means groups which can be distinguished mainly on the basis of cultural or national-origin characteristics. The social faculties being language, and the national-original faculties being the united states from which a person or his/her ancestors came. Today, the narrower meaning is more preferred by social researchers since it matches up more correctly aided by the initial Greek meaning of nationality. Ethnocentrism should also be mentioned here because this is a large cause of racism today. Ethnocentrism may be the belief that your group or country believes that they are better than all the other groups and countries on the planet.
