Workplaces can be really pressured dens where you are so heated throughout your eight hours of work every single day. But what really matters anyway? Time or output? The 8-5 fallacy is an industrial driven psychological cloud that creates toxic workspaces. Many may argue that waking up in the morning and getting to work early enough helps them plan their day ahead and work efficiently. But how true is that? The myth is about to get busted.

Being an early riser

Getting to work early enough helps you plan your day and work, many would say. But does that necessarily mean that your output will ultimately be at its best? Definitely, the answer to that is that there exists an iota of doubt. Being an early riser may mean that you get to the office just to catch up on the news on the papers and social media, very true. Matter of fact, living in the 21st century and in the spirit of WiFi and 4G internet speeds, laziness and internet addiction may be the cause of less output in workplaces despite the fact that you get to the office quite early.

What entails a Morning

Being not an early riser and a morning person for that matter will more often than rare be fashionably astonishing to your employer. But what really determines what entails a “morning”? Can mornings be in the PM and not in the AM? That question can only be answered by oneself. Here’s why. Morning is more of a psychological mind game whereby it only comes into existence only when the body and mind revamp from rest from being a “cog in the wheel” and is ready to focus on something. Could be work, could be something else like taking a jog. Therefore, your morning could start at 10 Am and not 5 Am. This draws down to quality output vs time output debate.

Quality output VS Time Output

This is sadly still diffused into the industrial revolution whereby jobs were often rota dynamic. In such a scenario, it was important that every critical team player be there on time to do specific skills. On the other hand, in the era of flexible work and target oriented work, the workspace is headed where coming in at a specific time and leaving at a specific time is critical. However, in as much as this is stressed at a greater level, being able to meet targets and deadlines is the ultimate deal breaker. This is because the value for the employer is quite essential.

This is a debate that may long go way in settling the odds between the two because workplaces are quite different. There are those workplaces whereby you are required to be at work within specific timeframes. Take for example an industrial workplace where machines need to be worked on and operated. Therefore, different workplaces, different approaches, but at the end of the day, the output should be essential.
