Qualities of a good graphic designer Essay

Qualities of a good graphic designer

Obviating the innate talent that can be available to illustrate, sketch, even think and decide, to be a good graphic designer, it requires many qualities that I can summarize in twelve, which are what I consider basic and most important.

Many of them could be transferred to almost all professions and design professionals:

Everything begins with a touch of madness thanks to the imagination. Seeing things differently marks a good start since fashions and trends are traps for creativity.

Passion is the essential to progress, and allows you to maintain your own technique while you can learn different ones.

Being precise, having technique, precision, is of the utmost importance and, despite the fact that it is invisible, it is not palpable in the view of all, there is a rule, a norm, in all compositions of a visual nature.

It takes investment in time, constantly practicing, searching, observing and not forgetting that it is a job, a business that in the end has to find a return.

Obviously, this does not always work at the beginning. Perseverance is needed, since, with time, everything is possible.

It is also thanks to curiosity, that it will feed our general knowledge and we will absorb all the styles and tendencies, with which we reach the goals that seemed more distant and impossible.

As in any sports discipline, perseverance is a priority for the rise to the top, each has its own rhythm, but it must be maintained.

It can not be designed without objective, if we plan, we sketch the result, this will allow us to deviate as little as possible from our final objective. There are many distractions, a lot of information around us, but this does not have to take us away or force us to change the chosen direction. Sometimes the possibilities for a design are practically endless, if we do not delimit, we will never reach a single optimal result

The good graphic designer must adapt to each project, we can not force the project to be modified by our limitations of adaptation and knowledge. Because each application and needs are unique, versatility is also a necessary quality to adjust and choose the appropriate style.

Copying does not make you a great designer, you must innovate. We must take the initiative and decide the next trends with courage and poise, taking into account that all innovation is always rejected by the environment, because an innovative idea will only see its creator and others will hardly understand at first.

It takes a lot of openness of vision, empathy, to expose our ideas to the world as there are different cultures, thoughts, and we have to arrive with our designs to most of all these singularities.

Finally, simplicity communicates much better than complexity; You have to get the least number of elements in the designs, be able to eliminate the superfluous or even useless to get to create the most direct and key message with our designs.
