Academics have undergone a large number of changes in the modern day scenario. There are students who are developing a kind of interest in the humanities background. This is because they now have varied kinds of interest and they want to pursue the same. They do not have this pre conceived notion within their minds that they have to study only science or engineering, medical or any other such other degrees that usually enjoy a good reputation. Just as there are two different sides of a same coin, it is a true fact that each and everything has both negative and positive aspects. Same is the case with studying humanities. The positive aspects are that they can develop a great understanding of the world around them and they can also develop a good understanding of the histories, cultures and the traditions of people belonging from so many different cultural backgrounds. This branch of study is something that teaches the students to become generous and to develop a feeling of care and empathy among themselves (Milic Babic and Dowling 2015). This subject is such that teaches all the students the logical and wise ways of dealing with all the critical stuffs. One major advantage of studying this subject is that it helps the students become very creative. They also develop the capability of doing an in-depth analysis and critical analysis of each and every subject that. However there are also many barriers that a student faces while pursuing this degree in humanities (Nussbaum 2016). Often they are criticized by their own family members or even their friends and relatives that they will not be able to have any good career and they will never be able to shine properly in the path of their lives. While pursuing their academics they are of often targeted by many of their batch mates who are pursuing any other disciplines like that of management or finance the most painful event that they might encounter in the course of their career life is the career or the job fairs that take place in the schools and the colleges. It is during this time that the arts and the humanities students are made to see and accept these points that they are not going to get any good career options in their lives. They also do not get the chance of backing any good job offers or any worthy internship for themselves. It might not get them any jobs that will have a very handsome pay (Duncan and Purcell 2017). It will not help them to get a $10,000 internship. So, it can happen that the rest of the batch mates are getting a good job in the big corporate houses or any big classy corporate firms and other such places. So, this might be a great blow to the mental strength and the morale and also the motivation or studying. This might harm the enthusiasm of the students. They might feel that no one is there to support them and that they will not be able to get any respectable jobs.


Apart from this, the students of the humanities stream can also be heartbroken after seeing the news that are flashed on the newspapers and the internet sites as well (Brosnan et al. 2016). There is news of reductions and cuts in the fun ding and also the discouraging news of the shortages of jobs in the market creates a huge amount of fear and tension among those students. Many of them might be working per time basis jobs or might have taken student loans for getting enrolled in good universities thinking that they will get a good degree and will be able to get good job so that they can easily repay the loan with interest (National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine 2016). However knowing that they will have so much difficulties in getting good jobs will make them tensed. Though they are very passionate about learning this subject but they realize that they will surely have many problems in carrying on with this passion as their career (Fleming and Grace 2017). They will be suffering from a kind of existential crisis which is really very bad and it will have a very harmful impact on their mind. The other barrier that the students of humanities can face is the language problem. There can often be students from different cultural backgrounds studying in the same humanities class. There can be the problem that some derogatory comments are made by the professors or by any other students regarding the tradition or the culture of any particular cultural background or any particular category of people. This can also harm the morale of those students (Rockwell 2016). Apart from this there are also huge reductions in the overall funds that must be granted to the universities for carrying on the necessary classes for the humanities based subjects like the music, language teaching department and others. If he Government of a nations decides to cut the funding that would sponsor the humanities classes in the universities, then students will definitely be disheartened and will find their future to be doomed. They will feel that there is nothing left for them and they will cease to continue their studies, this is the reason that the number of dropouts from the humanities group is often more. This is really a very bad and discouraging news at the same time for the humanities students if they see that they are being ignored and all the funding are being made only for those departments that are considered practical and useful.

So, it is the duty of the universities and the Government of the nation to make sure that they are paying equal amount of importance to all the disciplines that is taught. They have to give equal amounts of funds for each and every departments and subjects. They must put forward joint collaborative efforts so that they can support the needs and demands of the humanities department and can also open up new employment opportunities for them. There must be donations made for improving the facilities available to the students of the humanities department.
