How has mcdonalds negatively effected our health Essay

Mcdonalds has been hiding the fact about how unhealthy the food is since they first started business in april 15th, 1995. Mcdonalds can get away with this throughout advertising. they make the food look somewhat supernatural in their commercials and evan paying famous people to enjoy it. This lures people in to eat there even though mcdonalds food is extremely unhealthy, this is causing damage to people's lives. The foods that is served at Mcdonald's restaurants are high in fat and high in sugar. By regularly consuming these high calorie meals that do not have any nutritious value is basically poisoning your body. the salads that you think are healthy, aren't the healthy at all, those fries have more calories than a Lemon Meringue Pie.

First of all, Mcdonalds has many hidden ingredients that have negative effects in their foods such as partially hydrogenated oil, caramel color, Azodicarbonamide, Carrageenan, high fructose corn syrup, and much more. For starters one common ingredient that's found in buns and their english muffins is called DATEM, short for “diacetyl tartaric acid esters of monoglycerides”, it is found in the dough in Mcdonalds as a dough conditioner. DATEM is not healthy to eat “it is injected full with alot of trans fat and bad cholesterol”(stanford university). Both of these can cause heart disease. The bad cholesterol loaded in partially hydrogenated oils can lead to blood clots, stroke, and heart disease. Also partially hydrogenated oils are even used to cook menu items at McDonald’s that are supposed to be “healthier” options. Also, Mcdonalds uses a large amount of artificial coloring in most of the food items just to seem more appetizing to the eye. Though it does make food look better, the artificial coloring that they use commonly have been linked to cancer, Eating Well says. Plus, they add colors that are connected to problems with children “including allergies, hyperactivity, learning impairment, irritability and aggressiveness.” It’s also connected to cancer in laboratory animals, LIVESTRONG says. This is important because almost all food from mcdonalds, from fries to burgers, have these artificial colors. Another harmful ingredient is Azodicarbonamide. People in Europe realised how bad it was to eat so they banned it all in europe but it is still not banned in the USA. Azodicarbonamide is usually used in the making of rubber and plastic hence its name “yoga mat” chemical. Its banned in all of europe for two main reasons, eating too much leads to asthma and might be carcinogenic. It's even more dangerous to work with so if workers accidentally inhale azodicarbonamide, it can cause respiratory problems. Ammonium sulfate. It is an inorganic salt, is used to make fast food hamburger buns bigger. But as The Daily Meal tells us, the most common use for ammonium sulfate is in garden fertilizer. It has also been banned in certain countries because it is used to make explosives. It will cause irritation in the gastrointestinal tract like nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, although it isn't toxic unless consumed in large quantities.

Secondly the french fries may not to bad at first right? They should only have a couple of ingredients, potatoes, oil, and salt. This is the exact opposite for Mcdonalds, there is more than just salts and oils, they have a total amount of 19 ingredients in just french fries. although it does have salt and potatoes there are some questionable ingredients such as a thq It’s that TBHQ has been linked to cancer and has been banned in Europe. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has reportedly limited its use to 0.02%, although just a little bit of this ingredient can cause problems. The chemical dimethylpolysiloxane which is found in silicone, which is added to oil to cook french fries at the fast-food restaurant is also in Mcdonald's french fries found that when they used the is a toxic industrial chemical that is partially derived from silicone. The fries also have trans fat and that eating fries that are rich in trans fat it increases the amount of harmful LDL cholesterol in the bloodstream and reduces the amount of beneficial HDL cholesterol. Trans fats create inflammation, which is linked to heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and other chronic conditions. They contribute to insulin resistance, which increases the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. “Even small amounts of trans fats can harm health: for every 2% of calories from trans fat consumed daily, the risk of heart disease rises by 23%” (harvard university). This Quote clearly shows how poisonous the McDonalds french fries are to us. Taking the 19 ingredients into perspective, you can realise that most foods you eat every day don't even have half the amount of ingredients as potatoes!

The salad is also another item at mcdonalds that is much more unhealthy than most realise.

McDonald’s salads can be super high in sodium when everything is added on. That's because the chicken is highly seasoned, dressings can also contain a lot of sodium",and on top of that, several salads also include bacon and come with lots of cheese. For an example, The Bacon Ranch Salad with Buttermilk Crispy Chicken, for example, contains 1",120 milligrams of sodium—nearly half the daily recommended amount according to CDC (centers for disease control and prevention). Now what's so bad about having to much in your system is that its linked to an increase in stomach cancer. Also the amount of calcium that your body loses during urination increases with the amount of salt you eat. If calcium is in short supply in the blood, it can be leached out of the bones. So, a diet high in sodium could have an additional effect such as the bone thinning disease known as osteoporosis.(harvard school of public health). Likewise You may think you’re saving a lot of calories by forgoing a burger at McDonald’s, but that’s not always true. The Buttermilk Crispy Chicken Salad packs 520 calories, with 25 grams of fat. By comparison, a Quarter Pounder with Cheese contains 530 calories and 28 grams of fat. “It’s surprising to people that a cheeseburger could actually be lower",” says Christy Brissette, RDN, founder and president of 80Twenty Nutrition. Chicken and greens may seem like a smart choice if you’re trying to cut down on carbs. But the Southwest Crispy Chicken Salad contains 46 grams of carbohydrates the equivalent of three slices of bread, Brissette says. They come from the salad tortilla chips, the breading on the chicken, and sugar hiding in the Cilantro Lime glaze.

All in all Mcdonalds has been hiding the fact about how unhealthy the food is since they first started business. Mcdonalds gets away with this daily throughout misleading advertisements making the food look somewhat supernatural, luring people in to eat it. even though when you look at the real food label you will see that the food consumed at mcdonalds is extremely unhealthy, and even causing damage to people's lives.
