Fireplace gloves vs welding gloves Essay

My grandfather, who is a welder, always says that welding does not require your dexterity and a good welding machine only. There are side accessories that lead you to having a very good weld. So, last week I went to the store to buy some welding gloves for him but end up buying fireplace gloves instead.

Though, both seemed to be the same to me, yet to make sure next time I would not make the same mistake, I studied about each of those stuff which I am going to let you guys know as well.

What is fireplace gloves?

It is a pair of leather gloves which has petty insulation and is designed for helping you work with wood stoves or fire places. Besides, it is a multi-purpose one that you can use for your outdoor campfires and you can use it while you are cooking on your barbeque grill. Fireplace gloves can be both long arm as well as short arm. Long arm can be up to 20 inches.

What does it do?

A pair of fireplace gloves will let you hold a burning log without any burn through the gloves, as in, you will not feel any sort of discomfort as for touching a hot piece of log through your gloves. Thought, you certainly have a lot of tools to work with while you are at your fireplace, often it might happen that you need to use your hand since some things need manual configuration, for that, fireplace gloves will come in handy.

Necessity of fireplace gloves:

If you work in a fireplace then fireplace gloves should have the topmost priority in your accessories list. Fireplace gloves will protect your hands from burns, splinters and any other discomfort that you may feel while working in a fireplace. These can be both long arm and short arm which are made of fire resistant materials that keep your hands aloof from extreme heat.

Features needed in welding gloves:

1. Touch sensitivity:

You should always choose gloves which allow you to move your hands comfortably while you are working with your welding machine.

2. Longevity:

If you use something for a long time, it is the obvious that someday its utility gets lessened. Yet, if you feel like your gloves are wearing through faster than you expected, you should go for something better even if it costs you more.

3. Heat sensitivity:

Since welding requires continuous heat supply, you have to have a pair of gloves that is resistant to high heat whatsoever.

4. Thickness:

Thickness is a big factor in case of welding gloves. Buy gloves that are thick enough to protect your hands from extreme heat and thin enough to let you work properly.

Welding gloves material:

Leather is mostly used to make welding gloves since it is non-conductive, durable and can dissolve heat well. As we all know, there are different types of welding procedures and like that, you can also choose your desired pair of gloves from varieties of them. Like:

Horse hide:

Durable and hard but pretty comfortable. These type of gloves are used for mostly TIG welding.

These provide with formable support yet stay agile. If you are focusing on the dexterity of your working, then it is a good choice when you are working with a TIG welding machine.

These types of gloves do not happen to get harden fast when they are exposed to extreme heat, means these got less hand fatigue. You can definitely use these gloves in MIG or stick welding as these are very much heat resistant.

These sort of hides work very well in greasy conditions hence it is good for stick, MIG and TIG welding.

Because of its wide range of usage and quality, cowhide gloves are used by most of the people. It has a little more bulk, apart from that, it is pretty comfortable to use. It is used in MIG or stick welding.

These type of gloves are very soft and provides with good feel. Hence, this leather is typically used in TIG welding.

Even though, both fireplace gloves and welding gloves might seem to be the same to you, you should never get convinced by the fact that one might serve the purpose of the other. Both of the working environment is pretty risky, so, if you do not have the right equipment, you might get in troubles.
