It’s December and itâ€™s likely that you’re focusing on one (or several) short extracurricular statements. First, an instant FAQ:
Q: Why do many schools request these?
A: the normal App accustomed require pupils that pupils compose a 1,000 character (approx. 150-word) extracurricular statement. When in 2013 the most popular App dropped the necessity, many colleges kept it as a supplement.

Example 1: Journalism

Three techniques you should take:
1. Use active verbsto give an obvious feeling of just what you’ve done:
Discover their active verbs: writing, delivering, modifying, researching, re-writing, brainstorming, catching, polishing, leading, holding, knowing.
2. Tell us in one single good clear sentence what the activity meant to you.
“I’m the messenger who delivers news from various continents towards the doorsteps of my community.”
“I compose with this joyous means of creation.”
“One day I’ll look straight back, knowing that this is how we started initially to develop the scrutiny, precision and rigor necessary to be an author.”
Okay, that’s three sentences. But notice how all three vary. (and in case you’re gonna do three, they have to differ.)
3. It is possible to “show” a little, not in excess.
In the 1st line:
“VIOLENCE IN EGYPT ESCALATES. FINANCIAL CRISIS LEAVES EUROPE IN TURMOIL.”
“Leading a hot after-school brainstorming session, watching my abstract thoughts materialize onscreen, holding the freshly printed articles within my hand…”
The first one grabs our attention; the 2nd paints a clear and powerful image. Keep ‘em short!
Example 2: Hospital Internship
Once I put on western Kendall Baptist Hospital, I was told they weren’t accepting applications from high schoolers. But with a few teacher tips, the management gave me an attempt at aiding the secretaries: I delivered documents, responded telephone calls, and took in patients’ packages. Sadly, insufficient capital turn off large parts of a healthcare facility and caused countless employees--myself included--to lose their jobs. However Miami Children’s Hospital announced spaces for inpatient medical volunteers. Again, we encountered denial, but i obtained a chance to talk with the lead inpatient medical doctor and cited my past experience. Both these students began with 250-300 word statements (get all the content on web page very first). Then trim ruthlessly, cutting any repeated or unneeded words.
