According to Byars, ethics consists of the standards of behavior to which we hold ourselves in our personal and profesional lives; It establishes the levels of honest, empathy and trustworthiness and other virtues by which we hope to identify our personal behavior and our public reputations (Byars & Stanberry 2018). However, over the years, there have been a dispute on certain business ethical subjects; Recently one most popular discussed topic was Nestlé plc currently subjected to the longest ever running consumer cutoff due to the ban of Baby Milk Action (Hunt, 2018). In summary, Nestle was guilty for irresponsibly marketing of baby milk formula, which breach the International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes.

From my point of view, ethical considerations related to nestle decision should include integrity of company belief, and environmental impact. Nestle fail to pay attention to this consideration and has lend to the stakeholders trust. These stakeholders include: dealers, employees, shareholders, customers, the environment, management and executive and the board of directors. It commences with the customers who deal directly with the products and the costs involved, then to the employees who will be investigated alongside with management and executives. These can cause a coiled effect as shareholders’ equities are irreparable and the Board is put under pressure to quicken corporate governance.

One major problem was water sanitation, many of the places they were targeting didn’t have access to clean water, so it was necessary for them to boil water. But due to low literacy rates, many mothers were not aware of this, so they mixed the formula with polluted water which put the children at great risks. The organizations seem to have ignored this and encouraged mothers to use the formula. Breastfeeding, one of the most important aspects for an infant, especially in unsensitized areas, was cast aside. I do not think that the organization acted ethically as Nestle breach the code of marketing of breast milk substitutes by introducing baby formula to undeveloped places; Knowing fully well that breast feeding is important to infants.

I recommend Nestle can rectify the issue by focusing on doing something to improve unsafe water supplies, which contributed to the health problems associated with bottle feeding. Furthermore, ethical standards in businesses and throughout our value chain is fundamental to how the organization operate and to underpins consumer trust.
